Eagle Palms®

Plant Partners A/S offers the “Eagle palm”, the mark of excellence of the winter-hardy palm Trachycarpus fortunei.

The palms are produced in the French Pyrenees, where the temperature and climate are extremely mild and stable and the cool breeze makes the plants compact and strong with a beautiful crown. When the palms have finished growing in France, they are potted up and acclimatised for up to 12 months in a nursery in The Netherlands. As a result, the palms develop an extremely strong root system, allowing them to survive cold winters of up to minus 20 degrees out in the garden or on the patio.

Trachycarpus fortunei, otherwise known as the Chinese Windmill Palm, originates from the Chinese island of Chusan. It has been grown in China for a long, long time, and the fibres from its trunk are used in basketmaking, etc.

Eagle PalmsThe palm grows up to 15 m tall, with approx. 110 cm wide palm fans. When they are ten years old, the male palms develop beautiful yellow hanging flowers. The fruits on the female palms, which ripen in late autumn, are around 1 cm in diameter and black. The trunk grows to around 25 cm in diameter. In Denmark, the palm grows approximately 30-45 cm a year in well-established trees of good origin, with fully developed crowns.
